I'm Hali, a 21 year old woman who was born and raised in Dayton, OH. I went to high school at Stivers School for the Arts to pursue creative writing, and in my senior year found a love for sociology. Now, I'm at Wright State University and have made it to my senior year! I'm earning my Bachelors in Sociology with two minors in Criminal Justice and Sexuality Studies.
The goal of this blog is to explore the relationships between mothers and daughters. Women writers often explore these relationships in their novels, and for good reason. Women are intrinsically connected to their mothers. I myself don't know why that is - not exactly. Perhaps I gravitated towards this theme due to my own complex relationship with my biological mother. I wanted to gain insight on why mothers impact their daughters so much, even when they are not physically there. As with many things, the solution to this was to read and write about it. I also focus on the relationships between women and women writers, as these things often go hand-in-hand.
I must admit, I don't usually read contemporary fiction like many of the books I have written about for this blog. I'm more drawn to science fiction and fantasy, that sort of thing. Through the process of running this blog, I have discovered some great contemporary fiction and I know that I'll seek out more in the future. As this blog expands my other interests will undoubtedly show up, but the focus on women will always be the goal. And, most importantly, my feminism will always be intersectional .
